Members Services Page
Ok, so now you're a member of USGenealogy.net. Now what? How can you use the services
here for your personal Genealogy search? What do I do here?
Well, let's start first with what some possible uses for the services/goodies you have now.
Web Page- At signup time, we created an opening Web Page for you. The address of this page is,
http://www.USGenealogy.net/members/yourusername/ (index.html)
On this page, you will find a link to your email address and something called "Geneweb".
Geneweb, is our choice for Genealogy Family Tree building. It is a friendly, easy to use program
which you may have on your PC. You may download it HERE for free.
Even if you choose not to use GeneWeb on your PC, we have a fully functioning,
complete and independent instance loaded on your Page. Use it to create, add or modify your
Family Tree. There is no practical limit on the number of names you could add to it.
You may add a picture for each person. Also included is a "Forum" and a "Notes" section.
But, for advanced users, Geneweb is extremely customizable. Everything from changing the colors to
adding Passwords for limiting access. One of the best things is it's free and will remain so.
Even if you do not add any new Web Pages, your Geneweb is a huge benefit of being a member.
To start using Geneweb, scroll down to the link, "Add a Family" and begin adding names. It's easy.
Spread the word and give out your address to relatives so they may add data to your Geneweb.
Let your neighbors know it too. They might wish to add their info as well. It's all good.
New on 24, April, 2003, we added another application on your Web Page. That is called GedView.
Gedviewer allows you to display your GEDCOM file in a nice looking and useful way. To use, upload
your Gedcom into the "cgi-bin/gedview" folder then click the "Gedview Link" on your webpage.
It will then automatically build and run. (Upload using "Thumper" Web Editor below)
Of course, you may add new Web Pages if you wish (up to 30mb). To do so, login in to Thumper.
**Notes** If you did not upload a Gedcom file at registration, please do so using Thumper
then email us. We will need to input the file manually and need to modify the "config.php" file
in order for Gedviewer to operate.
Thumper Service- As a member, you of course are able to use all the the Features included inside
the main service we call,"Thumper". As you can see, there a large amount of activities here.
One of the more useful items is creating a "Club/NetClub". With one of these, you have
one more way to interact with relatives and friends. Pass that address around too.
There are a lot of things to do here. We understand there may even be too many for some people.
All are here for you and can be useful in their own way. Whether you choose to use all or
none of them, it's your choice. But, they'll be here, waiting for you if you decide to "Give 'em a whirl".
One of the features of membership are "Clubs". Several live examples are listed below.
Clubs- These are found in the main service. Members may create them to interact with fellow USG'rs or anyone else. Though only members have full
access rights such as chatting, non-member visitors may view and post to the integrated message boards each Club contains. Please visit all you care to, below is a partial list.
Summary- There are two main activities here. Add or display your Family Tree information using the Geneweb and/or Gedview programs from your Web Page
or login and use our own services.
Which ever you choose (or both) is ok with us. We are here to aid and assist gathering your Genealogy info
and getting that data out to your family and friends. If we may be of further help, please use one of the below email links.
