1. Johann Abraham Rausch, son of Friedrich Rausch and Martha Catherine, was born in 1697 and died before 1747.
General Notes: John Rouse emigrated from the Palatinate section of Germany or from Alsace.
He most probably settled in Pennsylvania and remained there a few years, then joined the 1717 colony in Virginia, where he patented land in 1728.
Three of his children are known, but there were probably others.
John Rouse obtained a patent for 610 acres of land in 1728 on White Oak Run, a tributary of the Robinson River, main land patent map, showing Germanna 1 and Germanna 2 land holdings, and Supplementary land patent map, showing land holdings of later German immigrants. John Rouse's origins in Germany are unknown, though there has been speculation; apparently he came as a young man without any children.
John Rouse appears in the Hebron Church records of 1733. By 1739, there were two tithables, so one son (presumably) was born by 1723. John Rouse was never naturalized and, when he died, his wife Mary petitioned the Proprietor of the Northern Neck for a transfer of his land to his sons Martin, Matthais, and Adam. This petition was made 7 Mar 1747 and the land was granted as a life interest to Mary, with the sons as residual heirs. (In 1728 the land had been considered a part of the Crown's lands, so the deed was issued as a patent. By 1747, the land was considered to be a part of the Northern Neck, owned by Lord Fairfax. When he issued a deed in response to the petition, it was called a grant.)
In 1764, Matthias Rausch and his wife Elizabeth transferred the land to Martin Rouse, so Mary must have been dead by then. Since Adam did not participate in this, it is presumed that he was also dead. From the petition, the known children of John and Mary (?) Rouse are 1. Martin, 2. Matthias, and 3. Adam.
These were probably all of the sons. There may have been daughters.

General Notes: Matthias Rouse was born about 1723 in Virginia and was a foot soldier of Culpeper Co. in 1756. From 1762 to 1788 he was involved in several land transactions. With his wife Elizabeth, he was a communicant in 1775 at Hebron Lutheran Church. He wrote his will in 1796, which was probated in 1806 in Madison Co., VA. He named his wife Elizabeth and the children who were; Joseph Rouse, Samuel Rouse, Michael Rouse, Lewis Rouse, Jacob Rouse, Ephraim Rouse, George Rouse, and Mary Rouse.
The family epitomizes the westward movement, as the children moved to Missouri, Indiana, and Kentucky. Several of them were a part of the number of Germanna people who moved to Boone Co., Kentucky, where the Rev. Carpenter went.
Mathias married Elizabeth. Elizabeth was born in 1725.

General Notes: Martin Rouse and his wife Elizabeth deeded land in 1762 and 1772. In 1793, Martin and his wife Elizabeth communed at the Hebron Lutheran Church. His Madison Co., VA, will, dated 11 Jul 1802, which was probated 26 Jan 1809, names four children; 1. Elizabeth Rouse, m. John Loyd, 2. John Rouse, no known heirs, 3. Adam Rouse, m. 1795 Tabitha Vawter, d. 1847 in Madison Co., 4. Samuel Rouse, d. 1817 in Madison Co. and left his property to his brothers John and Adam.

General Notes: Joseph Roush or Rouse entered the Revolutionary Army from Culpeper Co. VA, and served in Captain Henry Towles' Company, of Colonel James Barbour's Virginia Regiment. Later he was with Captain Mark Fink's Company, Colonel Alcock's Virginia Regiment, and was in the battle of Petersburg.
After serving a few days less than two months, he was permitted to go home with a brother (name not known) who had been wounded.
He later served under Colonel Slaughter in the Virginia Troops and was at the siege of Yorktown.
Joseph Rouse moved to Kentucky and lived with his son John and family. Prior to 1833, he left Kentucky to make his home with another son, Joel A., in Marion County, Indiana.
Joseph married Susanna Ralshach in 1774.

MISS MARTHA MITCHELL DIES AT SON'S HOME
Mrs. Martha Eilen Mitchell, widow of the late Wm. R. Mitchell, died at the home of her son Henry, near Evergreen Mills, VA, on Sunday morning Jan. 20, 1918. It was indeed entering into a day of rest for her as she had been a great sufferer for many years. Of a quiet and kindly disposition she was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed. Had she lived just two weeks longer she would have been 81 years old. Before her marriage 51 years ago she was a Miss Rouse, of Madison County.
Three sons, J. Wm. Mitchell, merchant at Watson; Henry, of Evergreen Mills; Vert, of Ashburn; five grandsons and four grand-daughters survive.
She was for many years a member of Mt. Hope Church.
Her funeral was held Tuesday in the Baptist Church in Leesburg, Rev. G.W. Popkins officiating, and her body laid to rest in Union Cemetery by side of her daughter who preceded her to the grave by several years.
Cemetery records show that she died of old age.

VA, died on 5 Apr 1978 in Arlington, VA at age 95, and was buried on 7 Apr 1978 in Union Cemetery, Leesburg, Loudon, VA.
