Notes for John Brooke:
Seek info. on John Brooke(s) bn c 1810 and family. John Brooke was bn in Holland and wife in France whose name is unknown. They came to the U.S. about 1841 and it's believed they lived in PA. The parents died possibly prior to l850 from unknown causes and left four young children: John (bn cl837); Edward; Henry and Christine. A guardian was appointed and Christine was adopted. John (bn cl837) is my gtgt grandfather. He was taught the tailoring trade and moved to Columbia, TN about l860. Nothing is known on the other siblings except one brother had a son named Abraham L. Brooke (bn cl866 - l870's) who is thought to have lived in Reading, PA. Apparently all siblings except John lived in PA. My gt Aunt, Lula Brooks Wiltshire bn l874 stated her sister Nora Brooks Hines bn l86l had corresponded with her first cousin Abraham L. Brooke but they later lost contact. He is thought to have never married. My mother is a Brooks. Any info. appreciated. I live in Montgomery, AL. Thanks.
I recently found Abraham L. Brook on the l880 census in Northumberland Co., PA. His age given is l7 thus born l862-63. He is living in household of Frank Miller age 28 or 38(?) and wife Catherine age 39. Apparently Catherine is Abraham Brook's mother and a widow who remarried Mr. Miller. Catherine could have had other children living away from home in l880. There are no Miller children listed. Mr. Miller worked for the railroad and Abraham Brook may have also
Grandfather Robert Warner Brooks was born in 1918 to Robert Warner Brooks (born 1886 in Philadelphia to a Francis Brooks and Georgianna Jones) and Carrie Kanouse of Nesquehoning, Carbon County. Francis Brooks was born in Philadelphia to John S Brooks(~1840, a retail grocer)and Sarah?. I know Francis Brooks lived in Upper Darby as did his brother Harry. My Grandfather's sister lived in Sunbury/Muncy area for years, most of his family remained in the Summit Hill area - Carbon County. My Grandfather often talked about his Aunts and Uncles from Philadelphia area visiting frequently. As the W. as a middle name drew my attention to your post, could this be a connection =========
