GeneWeb Advanced User Instructions
Notes
We require all users to follow these steps in order to maintain a functional and trouble-free installation. Any significant deviations WILL result in the need for manual intervention by our staff to repair the mistakes.
This slows down your installation and causes us undo distraction.
1.The Web Editor upload function WILL trash your *.txt files (start.txt, lexicon.txt, etc). You are required to "Edit" each of these files in turn using a "Copy-Paste" sequence from your Windows files.
This will ensure an enjoyable experience. Do Not attempt to upload these files as your Genweb will not display correctly.
2.Conventions are as follows; The "Web Editor" refers to the link on the left of the Main Page. By clicking this, then the "Advanced" link, will lead you to
all the functions described below. Also, you might need to modify the link
on the index.html if you load a new base as the default basename is "yourusername.gwb". You may view your GeneWeb by loading your new HomePage;
The URL or net address of this is, "http://www.USGenealogy.net/members/YOURUSERNAME" then clicking the GeneWeb link.

1.Please note the Directory Structure used here. It is different somewhat from the standard "Windows" layout.
2.Loading your Existing Databases
A. Bring up the Web Editor. The root directory is displayed, click "geneweb" then "bases" to change to
the correct directory.
B. Type in your base name in the box under "MakeDir", (don't forget to add a .gwb to the name!) press
"MakeDir" to create. The screen refreshes, note the new directory.

DO NOT upload "command.txt" as it is incorrect and reflects your Windows path
F. You should now be able to display the newly loaded base. Replace the "b?username" with your
newly created ".gwb" directory name in the url listed above (Note2).
G. Repeat for any other databases you may have.
